ACCOUNTABLE CARE ORGANIZATIONS: WHAT ARE THEY; WHY ARE THEY NEEDED; HOW DO THEY WORK; DO THEY WORK

Accountable Care Organizations are being touted by many as the best alternative to the traditional and unsustainable fee-for-service model for employers. The three objectives of ACOs are to improve the health of populations, improve the patient experience, and reduce the per capita costs.   HBCH is will present the case studies of two local employers who have chosen to adopt the ACO model. One employer chose the Memorial Hermann hospital system ACO model.   The other employer chose the Kelsey Seybold physician network ACO model.   The program will include discussions on the employer’s rationale for changing to an ACO, predetermined health and cost outcomes by which to measure success and a status update since implementation.
