Social Determinants of Health: The Role of Employers

HBCH’s well-being program is always one of our most anticipated and well attended events.  The line-up for this year’s program despite the challenges of COVID will be no different as we address four timely topics.

Social Determinants of Health.    Elena Marks, CEO of the Episcopal Health Foundation, will lead a discussion on the need for employers to address SDOH inside the corporate walls and its relationship to the communities from which they hire.   COVID has only served to highlight health disparities in the workplace.   Our discussion will also include Jessica Brooks, CEO of the Pittsburg Business Group on Health.  Jessica has been a national leader in workplace race equity discussions.

Obesity in the Workforce.   This panel discussion will present benefits for employers to assist plan members manage obesity as a chronic disease with a step-therapy approach.   The panel will also examine how SDOH inequities exacerbates its prevalence in all communities.

The Path Forward for Mental Health (TPF).   Attendees will be provided an update on Houston’s RESET progress toward implementing the five pillars of TPF that will transform employers ability to address behavioral health issues in the workplace.  The pillars are Collaborative Care,  Telehealth, Measurement-Based Care, Access, and Parity.    Key Houston stakeholders wo have meeting for several months to understand the challenges and opportunities in our market will provide their perspectives and  the strategy for implementation in Houston.

Employer Well-Being Programming Post COVID. This would be a panel discussion. Many employers are examinging permanently allowing employers to work virtually. How will employers maintain engagement of the workforce since most well-being is currently being done on-site?
