Keynote Address and Panel Making the Case to the C-Suite
Session 1 (Click for Speakers and Summary)
Moderator:
Ted Barral
Speakers: David Hines, Carrie Rust, Stacey Richter , Kinu Edebe
There are many opportunities to improve the value of health benefits offerings. New value opportunities will require employers to respond and act in ways different from the past. To accomplish this, benefits professionals must move the discussion of excessive healthcare costs and benefits to the C-Suite. Executives at the senior level may be financially, reputationally, and politically risk-averse. Stacey Richter, host of the award-winning podcast, Relentless Health Value, has interviewed hundreds of healthcare executives and entrepreneurs since the show first aired in 2014. Stacey will share her thoughts about the challenges and opportunities for employer purchasers of healthcare services. She will then lead a panel discussion of Houston employers to help develop strategies to make the case for change to the C-Suite.

New Directions to Better Manage High-Cost Claims
Session 2 (Click for Speakers and Summary)
Moderator:
Christine Hale
Speakers: Jim Arnold, Kris Atkins, Elaine Britt, Catherine O’Neill.
Employers will gain confidence and strategic direction to address high-cost claims (HCC). HCC was identified as a topic of highest concern for employers in the 2024 Houston Health Benefits Survey. Results from a series of HCC workshops held throughout the country this summer in which more than 60 employers including Houston participated will be presented. The prevention, early identification, and management of HCC were explored. Participating employers completed pre- and post-workshop surveys that included HCC management strategies. Post-workshop changes in awareness, confidence, and strategies were striking as employers learned about real opportunities to reduce costs and achieve better outcomes in their plans. Key strategies include independent claim audit and reviews and coordinated general and specific condition navigation.

Point Solution Selection and Management
Session 4 (Click for Speakers and Summary)
Moderator:
Speakers: Michael Avenevoli, Cristin Dickerson.
There are hundreds of potential solutions from which employers can choose to augment their health benefits offerings. Employer chooses point solutions in part because they are not receiving the services and outcomes they expect from their health plans. Far too often employers purchase a point solution to fill a specific void only to terminate that solution a few years later because it did not deliver on the cost, quality, or employee expectations expected. This session will present a framework by which employers can select and then manage their point solution portfolio. Employers will learn what questions to ask up front, how to ensure coordination of point solution providers, and how to assess their cumulative ROI.
